THE NECKLACE GUY DE MAUPASSANT AUTHOR'S BIOGRAPHY Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant, French; ( 5 August 1850 – 6 July 1893) was a French writer, and a representative of the naturalist school of writers, who depicted human lives and destinies and social forces in disillusioned often pessimistic terms. His stories are characterized by economy of style and efficiency. The Franco Prussian war broke out soon after his graduation from college in 1870; he enlisted as a volunteer. In 1871, he left Normandy and moved to Paris.During this time his only recreation and relaxation were boating on the Seine on Sundays and holidays. Gustave Flaubert took him under his protection and acted as a kind of literary guardian to him, guiding his debut in journalism and literature.
